Cedarburg's Holiday Season Runs on Friday Nights. Here's How the 2026 Calendar Fits Together.

October 29, 2026

Most of Cedarburg's 2026 holiday season fits into five Friday evenings, centered on 5 to 8 p.m. From November 20 through December 18, the luminaries along Washington Avenue, the free Chamber trolley, Cedar Creek Settlement's themed nights and the evening hours at both museums all land on the same Fridays. The art museum's 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. hours are the only ones that start earlier and run later than that window.

The dates outside those Fridays are few. Most of them sit at the start of the season or bunch up around Thanksgiving. Once you know which Friday has which theme, the rest of the calendar is easy to plan.

The Five Fridays

The Cedarburg Chamber of Commerce lines downtown Washington Avenue with hundreds of luminaries every Friday from November 20 through December 18, weather permitting. The same Fridays bring free trolley rides, with stops throughout downtown from 5 to 8 p.m., also weather permitting. The Chamber Tourism, Promotion, & Development Committee, Cedarburg Overhead Door and Stilt House sponsor the trolley, and the Chamber posts a trolley map that shows the stops.

At the south end of downtown, Cedar Creek Settlement at N70W6340 Bridge Rd. holds its Festive Friday Eves on the same nights, from 5 to 8 p.m. Each Friday has its own theme, according to the Settlement's own schedule:

  1. November 20: The Settlement Christmas Showcase
  2. November 27: Home for the Holidays
  3. December 4: Santa's Workshop
  4. December 11: Countdown to Christmas
  5. December 18: Oh, My! 7 Days 'Til Christmas

These themes are the Settlement's own programming. The luminaries and trolley stay the same all five weeks. If you have kids, Santa's Workshop on December 4 is the obvious pick. If you want the season's first night, that's the Showcase on November 20.

What Else Stays Open Late on Those Fridays

The two museums both build their late hours around the Fridays.

Venue Address Friday Evening Hours Runs Through Notes
Cedarburg Art Museum, "'Twas the Night Before Christmas" W63N675 Washington Ave. 4:30–8:30 p.m., Nov. 20–Dec. 18 Jan. 3, 2027 Timed tickets, $10; age 5 and under free; reindeer 5–8 p.m.
Cedarburg History Museum, Christmas Exhibit N58W6194 Columbia Rd. 5–8 p.m. Jan. 3, 2027 Open Friday nights only
Cedar Creek Settlement, Festive Friday Eves N70W6340 Bridge Rd. 5–8 p.m. Dec. 18 Weekly theme

The art museum exhibit is the one where planning ahead matters most. The museum is staging the period rooms of the Victorian Wittenberg-Jochem Mansion around lines from Clement C. Moore's poem. After the tour there's an outdoor garden with lights, family photo spots, hot drinks and Santa's live reindeer. Entry uses timed tickets, and the museum strongly encourages pre-registration because capacity is limited. You can find details on the museum's Christmas page. On a Festive Friday, the evening hours stretch half an hour past the trolley on each end. That leaves a few minutes to book an entry time, ride the trolley and still make your slot.

Both museums keep their exhibits up after the Friday series ends. The art museum is open Wednesday through Sunday until January 3, 2027, with regular hours of 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday and noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday. The History Museum's Christmas Exhibit continues on Friday nights through the same date. That makes the week between Christmas and New Year's a quieter chance to see both, after the luminaries are gone.

The Dates That Don't Fall on a Friday

Here are the days off the Friday schedule, in order.

  • Saturday, Nov. 7, and Sunday, Nov. 8: Holiday open houses at Birchwood Wells, W63N646 Washington Ave., 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, and at Wild Lavender Boutique, W63N712 Washington Ave., 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday.
  • Thursday, Nov. 12: The Tipsy Elf returns to Kuhefuss House, W63N627 Washington Ave., and runs through December 26. This is its third season. Saturday nights include Karaoke Karoling from 7 to 9 p.m.
  • Saturday, Nov. 28: Small Business Saturday across Cedarburg. The Cedarburg Chamber and Port Washington State Bank are giving away a total of $500 in Cedarburg Chamber Gift Checks to shoppers and diners.
  • Monday, Nov. 30: The Chamber's Tree Lighting at Cedarburg Community Gym, W63N641 Washington Ave. The program begins at 5:30 p.m., and Santa and local dignitaries light the tree at 7 p.m.

The open houses this weekend are the first holiday-shopping dates on the calendar, two weeks before the first luminaries go out. The Tipsy Elf opens the following Thursday and runs more than a week past the last Festive Friday. Shoppers who start early and anyone looking for a holiday night out after December 18 have options on both ends.

Thanksgiving Week Has the Busiest Stretch

Line those dates up next to the Fridays and the busiest stretch of the season becomes clear. Thanksgiving is November 26. The next day is the second Festive Friday, Home for the Holidays, with luminaries and trolley rides downtown. Small Business Saturday and its gift check giveaway follow on November 28. Two days later, on Monday, November 30, the Tree Lighting brings everyone back to the Community Gym.

That's three of the season's biggest moments in four days, and it lands while many families have guests in town. If you're hosting, that weekend covers almost everything the season offers: the luminaries, a themed night at the Settlement, a reason to shop locally on Saturday, and a lighting ceremony to close it out.

Because the Tree Lighting is on a Monday, it falls on a school and work night. The 5:30 p.m. start and the 7 p.m. lighting leave time to arrive after work, but the evening runs later than a typical weeknight.

Getting Downtown as the Road Work Wraps Up

The other reason the season's timing works out is the South Washington Avenue Reconstruction Project. In its October 16 update, the City of Cedarburg said pavement markings and concrete work were complete. Crews were finishing the wiring for the traffic lights at the Pioneer/Washington and Lincoln/Washington intersections, and restoration work was expected early the following week. At that point, traffic in both directions was using the two middle lanes while the outside lanes stayed closed.

The City scheduled completion for November 6, 2026, said it hoped to finish sooner, and noted that every timeline depends on weather and construction progress. If the project stays on schedule, the work wraps up the day before the Birchwood Wells and Wild Lavender open houses. When the traffic control comes down, the new signals at both intersections will start out flashing red before switching to full operation. Expect that adjustment period on South Washington right around opening weekend.

Cedar Creek Settlement's website says its businesses stayed open throughout the project, and it suggests McKinley Boulevard or Lakefield Road for drivers coming from the south. Those routes are still useful if the final work runs past the target date. For questions, the City's update lists City Hall at (262) 375-7610.

A New Address on the Creek This Year

One downtown address will be going through its first holiday season. Camp Bar opened at W63N664 Washington Ave., the former Art of Joy space, with a soft opening May 22 through 28 and a grand opening May 29, as the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported. The News Graphic described its large patio beside Cedar Creek. It's on the same stretch of Washington Avenue as the luminaries, a short walk from the art museum at W63N675 and the Community Gym at W63N641.

After December 18

After the last Festive Friday, the luminaries and trolley stop, the Settlement's themed nights end, and the Tipsy Elf closes on December 26. The two museum exhibits run until January 3, 2027. The next big date on the town calendar is the Winter Festival on February 20 and 21, 2027. The Chamber's Cedarburg Christmas site notes that it only lists events that organizations submit, so individual shops may add their own dates as the season goes on.
